Holland & Knight Comment on Recent Trends in Sustainable Finance

Member firm Holland & Knight's Financial Services attorneys Lara Rios and Camilo Gantiva Hidalgo co-authored a chapter on sustainable finance for the International Comparative Legal Guides' (ICLG) Lending & Secured Finance 2024 guide. Now in its 12th year, the publication highlights common issues in lending and secured finance laws and regulations, with analysis covering more than 35 jurisdictions worldwide. In their chapter, the authors define the concept of sustainable finance before breaking down sustainability-linked financing mechanisms such as sustainability-linked loans (SLLs), key performance indicator-linked loans (KPIs), environmental, social and governance (ESG) loans and sustainability-linked bonds. They also explain green bonds and social bonds, note key takeaways from 2023's market and offer practice pointers for borrowers and issuers.

Jose Cardelle, an intern at Holland & Knight and a 2024 graduate of Harvard Law School, also contributed to the chapter.
